2009 FFF Southern Council NominationClub of the YearMid South Fly FishersI would like to nominate for Southern Council Club of the Year, Mid South Fly Fishers. MSFF has been a club dedicated to conservation, teaching, and promoting the sport of fly fishing since 1977. Our conservation projects include, Shelby Farms the largest metropolitan park in the United States, Tennessee Parks and Greenways, Friends of the Norfork Hatchery. MSFF is leading the Project Healing Waters project through the Memphis VA Hospital. MSFF annually supports the Streets Ministry Outings, Boy Scouts of America, W.E.T. (Water Education Teams) and Palmer House Kids, performing casting instructions, fishing instruction, fly tying instruction and conservation. MSFF programs to introduce fly fishing to the general public, have included two introductory to fly fishing classes which have been attended by over 80 new fly fishers. Introduction to fly tying classes taken by over 60 fly tyers. In addition, MSFF supports a monthly introduction to fly tying class through the local Bass Pro Shop. MSFF sponsored several outings to promote the fellowship and introduce our members both old and new to the sport of fly fishing. MSFF through our monthly club meetings have introduced numerous national speakers and seminars, which have included Dave and Emily Whitlock, Lefty Kreh, and Bob Clouser. The meetings are publicized to the public through newspaper and radio announcements. Through our efforts and special programs MSFF has added over 75 new members this year. |
