2009 FFF Southern Council Nomination

Friend of the Southern Council

Dr. Art Mazzier

This gentleman is not a member of the Southern Council although you wouldn’t know it from the hours he spends teaching and Federating within the SOC. His Federation membership and his home in Wheaton, IL, is in the Great Rivers Council and he travels many miles spreading the word of the FFF. He is a Master Certified Casting Instructor as well as a master behind the tying vice. He is a retired medical doctor who was so enthralled with the world of entomology that he went back to school after his retirement to study the world of bugs. To attend one of his entomology workshops is to be immersed into another realm!

Doc has shown extraordinary dedication to our Council and to its clubs by participating in it clubs’ activities at his own expense. He gives of himself unselfishly usually only receiving just a thank you. It is time he received something more. We would like to nominate Dr. Art Mazzier for the Friend of the Southern Council Award.

Nomination by Chet and Pat Smith

I would consider it a great honor to second Art's nomination.

Art has been a long time attendee of the Southern Council Conclave and is a true ambassador for the Southern Council. I can not begin to list the number of workshops that he has presented or participated in presenting.

In addition, Art has been extremely faithful with respect to his duties as a Master Certified Casting Instructor. Art has served as an examiner at Southern Council Conclaves for many years. And as has been mentioned, Art's participation as a workshop presenter or CICP examiner has always been at his expense.

Art exemplifies what I consider to be the very best of what the Southern Council Conclave offers: a deep knowledge of fly fishing that is graciously, willing and unpretentiously shared with others.
