2009 FFF Southern Council Nomination

Junior Fly Tyer of the Year

Dakota Elliott

I would like to nominate Dakota Elliott for Junior Fly Tyer of the Year. Ever since Dakota came to live with his grandparents he has been enamored with fly tying and the insects that they represent. This has gone so far as to do his science fair project on insects and tying flies to represent those insects. This was a very innovative and creative endeavor.

Dakota comes to our monthly fly tying roundtables with his grandfather, when soccer games do not interfere, soaking in as much information as possible. He is always willing to listen and learn from those that are there. He will then demonstrate how he has assimilated and adapted this information for his tying style. Dakota is a fast learner and it doesn’t take long for him to his talents in creating his own creations.

I have watched Dakota’s ability grow as he has over the last couple of years and it seems like the sky is the limit for this young man. That is why it is my honor to nominate Dakota Elliott for junior Fly Tyer of the Year.
