2010 FFF Southern Council Nomination

Club of the Year

Capital City Fly Fishers

I wish to nominate Capital City Fly Fishers for the 2010 Club of the Year Award. CCFF is an eighty plus member club that is extremely active within the local community as well as the Southern Council. Our mission is to educate people about the ethics, philosophies, and history of fly fishing and to conserve and protect the fisheries of our state .This year I believe we have done a phenomenal job at achieving our mission.

Our membership is very diverse, talented and highly skilled. They have been dedicated and have worked tirelessly at making our core programs a success. Our core programs are as follows:

  • Hooked on Fly Fishing Not Drugs – program designed for middle school students at a local school to offer an alternative to negative influences such as drugs and alcohol.
  • Tying with the Vets- program at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Administration Hospital where CCFF members teach the art of fly tying to our local veterans.
  • Jeff City High School At-Risk Youth Class- CCFF members teach the sport of fly fishing to students within this group.

Although the above are our core programs, members of CCFF have been involved in many additional programs. CCFF members have been involved in Casting for Recovery as river helpers and casting instructors. We co-sponsored a weekend seminar with former Casting Board of Governor and author Gary Borger. We have two certified casting instructors and one master certified instructor .They were instrumental in holding the first ever casting certification test in the state of Missouri. CCFF is Missouri Stream Team 760.We performs quarterly water quality tests and stream cleanups on Saline Creek. Many of our members have taught courses at Becoming an Outdoors Woman events throughout the state. CCFF members have also taught courses at the FFF National Conclave as well as the Southern Council Conclave. CCFF has shown its commitment and dedication to promoting the sport of fly fishing throughout this last year.

For these reasons and more I endorse Capital City Fly Fishers as the club of the year for 2010.
