Federator of the Year

R. Mike Hawkins

I wish to take your time and make another Nomination for an award to be presented during the 2010 Conclave. This is for the annual Federator of the Year award.

  • This is a person who has been invaluable during the past many years of his service to the Council as well as the District he represents as well as his own Fly Club.
  • I have had the pleasure to work with not only him but others he has worked with. During these times him he has never complained of the work, cost, and lack of assistance and desired outcome of the projects!
  • Any job or requirement he has been presented with he has accomplished with enthusiasm and love of the art/sport.
  • He has provided unparallel assistance within the Ark-La-Tex Regional Development Committee in the smoothly with his supervision and work.
  • As Regional Director of Development many things have come to fruition. He has the foresight, intelligence and drive to envision a project, garner assistance from his fellow members and produce the demanding projects which are then placed upon his shoulders.
  • He is a Certified Casting Instructor within the Federation of Fly Fishers in the Southern Council and provides assistance in teaching others the wonders of Fly Casting. Helping others to enjoy by learning how to modify their technique enabling and benefitting their ability, and thus the enjoyment of the art/sport of Fly Fishing.

Other Activities:

  • Ark-La-Tex Regional Director of Development (2 years)
  • Federation of Fly Fishers / Certified Casting Instructor
  • Joined with Jerald Lewis, CCI and developed a "Beginners Casting Project" at the Lower Mountain Fork River with many people and this resulted in an addition of 20 new members to the FFF.
  • Developed and enacted the FIRST ever Regional Conclave for his Clubs he works with.
  • Assisted in developing New and Expanding Clubs within his Region.
  • Personally built Graphite Rods, and under the tutorship of Mr. Barry Bauer, and has personally built {25} quality Bamboo Fly Rods.
  • Assists and is deeply involved in demonstrations of Fly Tying at various locations in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
  • Has attended and assisted with the Southern Council Conclaves since 1996 and has attended the National Federation Conclave as well.
  • Last but not the least of his credibility, without being asked, he joined all the clubs within his area as Regional Director of Development.

The Individual:

  • A good father, husband and family man. He is a good example to many and states he learns something NEW every day!

As a side note, there are so many things to say about him, but he is too humble to admit. As for the people who know him, they have only just and earned respect for him in many ways.
