2010 FFF Southern Council NominationTeacher of the YearJere AndersonI am placing the name of Jere Anderson for the Teacher of the Year Award based on the performance of our outreach program. In the calendar year of 2009 the Dallas outreach program under the Leadership of Jere Anderson, Conservation and Outreach Chairman, introduced all aspects of Fly Fishing to almost 500 students. Jere Anderson is a Texas Parks and Wildlife Area Chief and has instructed all of our outreach volunteers the complete course and led us in all of these classes. The range of our educational endeavor included Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Senior Centers, Community Centers, and Two University classes in the Dallas area. Our students included:
We also held a number of classes for Casting for Recovery, Healing Waters and numerous other organizations whose goals are similar, but we don’t have the actual student lists from these. Our Club has a supporting cast of over 40 volunteers that take part in these educational opportunities, all organized, led and taught by Jere Anderson . When the Texas Expo in Austin was canceled, Jere took the lead on developing the Fishing Village at the North Texas Regional Expo that drew about 4600 paid admission its first year. Jere regularly has a booth at the January Hunting, fishing and outdoor show and Boy Scout jamborees. We participate in Earth Day and other North Texas Outdoor festivals with a booth that has entomology, knot tying, fly casting and fly tying activities available to the public. These contacts have generated hundreds of the teaching opportunities as well as introducing fly fishing to thousands of spectators. Jere has earned awards from Texas Parks and Wildlife for his outdoor education Program including an award for the education of certified Angler Education Instructors. I hope you will consider Jere Anderson for this award. Thank You, Charlie Ducote, President |
