2007 FFF Southern Council Nomination

Club of the Year

Mid South Fly Fishers

Please consider the Mid South Fishers as Club of the Year for 2007. This Club has worked at a fevered pace during the year of 2007. The endeavors in the conservation arena have included such Projects as the revitalization of local lakes managed by the Friends of Shelby Farms. This Non –Profit Organization asked for help for it’s numerous lakes in the beautiful and pristine park located in the middle of a thriving and growing City. This area is used and known thru out the western Tennessee area for family outings and a return to Nature. MSFF has adopted the Lakes committed money and time to clean around the lakes, test the lake for stability of the lake and started a program with the Boy Scouts to build a bridge for observation outlooks at this lake. This has been proceeding through out the year of 2007 and probably will continue in 2008.

The commitments have not stopped there as MSFF has raised enough money to assist the Tennessee Parks and Greenways to purchase land in Middle Tennessee to protect some endangered land for natural fisheries and old growth forests.. MSFF has the recognition of continuous education for fly-fishing and the ongoing support of the Water Environmental Teams of numerous high schools in Shelby County. The Fly Fishing EXPO this year, a great undertaking for non-profit meant countless hours, meetings, commitments of time and juggling of family obligations for this year’s program. The attendance was low but the memberships did not falter in renewing for not only MSFF but the FFF as well. This year the EXPO has allowed MSFF to donate $3000.00 to catch a Dream for the sponsorship of a terminally ill child, another hard fought endeavor by the Club

The support of the Club for the SOC and the FFF has been upgraded with an advisor on the MSFF Board for the Federation, which has allowed a constant presence for the federation and continual Membership drive.

The latest support by MSFF has been for the Friends of the Norfolk Hatchery with membership and sponsorship from the Club for the Friends of the Hatchery. MSFF has over the years supported and the developed the waters in the White and Norfolk River systems. This will not cease as even today monies and time is being appropriated for the conservation and the preservation for our rivers in Arkansas.

Thank you for your consideration
