2007 FFF Southern Council NominationFederator of the YearDennis ReedThe Northeast Arkansas Flyfishers nominate Dennis Reed for the Southern Council’s Federator of the Year. We feel that he is the logical, and in our eyes, the only choice. Dennis has shown dedication to both the Southern Council and our club in many ways. He has put on several programs for the Northeast Arkansas Flyfishers on fly tying. He also has conducted fly tying clinics for our club. Each time the Northeast Arkansas Flyfishers did Fly Tying 101 for the Southern Council Conclave, Dennis was always one of the first to volunteer to help. At the 2000 Southern Council Conclave, he organized and chaired the first "Fly Tying Coaches" booth. Dennis chaired the fly tying coaches through 2006, as well as putting on fly tying classes at the Conclave. In 2004 he was the fly tying co-chair with Slim Mitchell and has been the Southern Council’s fly tying chair since. Dennis is always willing to share his knowledge with others and has been asked to tie at several sports shows in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He has also been asked to put on casting and tying clinics and demonstrations for various Arkansas Game and Fish Commission functions, including a "Women in the Wild" class at Crowley's Ridge State Park and the opening of Scatter Creek Wildlife Refuge in Greene County. This year alone he has tied at the Sow Bug Roundup, the Gulf Coast Council Conclave, the Southeastern Conference Conclave, and the Mid-South Fly Fishers’ Home Waters Expo. Wherever he goes, he takes some FFF brochures, encouraging nonmembers to get involved, join a local club, and the FFF. While helping in June at his second Casting for Recovery Retreat, Dennis and his club gave away a FFF membership to one of the participants. He is trying to work on a plan where all participants to Casting for Recovery and Project Healing Waters would be given a free year membership to the FFF to encourage them to continue in fly fishing. Dennis is the glue that holds the Northeast Arkansas Flyfishers together. He was one of the founding members of our club. He has held every office in the club, several of them more than once. He is currently our secretary/treasurer and contact person to the Southern Council and the FFF. He was our first newsletter editor, holding that position for more than 5 years. He has also been our program and activity director since the start of the club. There are not enough accolades that we could use to describe what Dennis has done for our club and the Southern Council. Because of what he means to us, it is our great pleasure and honor to nominate Dennis Reed for Federator of the Year for the Southern Council. Respectfully, The Northeast Arkansas Flyfishers |
