2007 FFF Southern Council NominationJunior Fly Tyer of the YearWilliam DunawayOne of the truly refreshing things about fly tying is to see a youth who gets caught up in the excitement and discovery of creating their own flys. The reward comes not only in seeing them learn but seeing them pass that knowledge to their peers. Mid South Fly Fishers would like to enter such a youth, William Dunaway, for consideration as Junior Fly Tyer of the Year.William is the son of Mid South and Federation Member, Bill Dunaway. He has been involved the last three years in attending MSFF Activities, and in learning fly tying from his father, Mid South Classes, and visiting fly tyers at Expo and Club Meetings. He has attended Tying Sessions with the Knotheads (MSFF Fly Tying Group), and at Bass-Pro. Not stopping there, William the last two summers, has done an excellent job helping other youth learn to tie flys at MSFF’s Expo Youth Fly Tying. William has been and continues to be a regular contributor of flys he has tied. These fly have gone to charity functions such as “Casting For Recovery”, and other Mid South donation fly boxes. William has shown and continues to show the desire to learn more about tying, and to pass on what he has learned to others. Through teaching and donation of his completed flys, he as demonstrated the abilities and traits we should encourage and give recognition to. On this basis we feel that William is highly deserving of the Junior Fly Tyer Award. Tom Burkett |
