2007 FFF Southern Council Nomination

Man of the Year

Mac Caradine

Mac Caradine is an avid fly fisher who has fished warm, cold and salt waters all over the country since he was a young man. He is a long time member of Mid-South Fly Fishers and Federation of Fly Fishers, a certified casting instructor and a current member of the FFF Guide Association. His home waters are in North Arkansas where he and his wife, Julia, have a home on the banks of the White River near Cotter.

He is currently serving on the MSFF board of directors as Special Events Director after several years on the board as Marketing Director, Vice President, President and Past President. During his terms as Vice President and President, the club grew significantly in membership and participation allowing club activities to expand to new levels. Mac has led the club to be a model for other fly fishing clubs and continues to encourage and teach others in the fly fishing community.

He works tirelessly on behalf of fly fishing education, conservation and public awareness. In 2004, Mac served as Vice President of Education for the FFF Southern Council Board of Directors. Additionally, in 2004 and 2005, Mac volunteered his time and efforts to the Hooked on a Cure fly fishing event in support of the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Over the last five years, Mac has been heavily involved in promoting membership in the Federation of Fly Fishers, encouraging new members to join FFF. Needless to say, Mac has devoted considerable time and effort to increasing public knowledge of the FFF, Southern Council and fly fishing.

In 2005, Mac went beyond the call of duty being instrumental in founding and organizing the Mid-South Fly Fishers Home Waters Expo. This event, held in Germantown, Tennessee, in it’s first year had over 800 attendees from seven states to participate in casting, fly tying, seminars and a variety of fly fishing activities. This event has raised over $9,000 for Mid-South Fly Fishers to promote conservation and education of fly fishing for three consecutive years.

Mac has not even ceased his commitment to the world of fly fishing even today, as he has become one of the voices of the The Friends of the Norfolk Hatchery. He serves on the Board of this Organization while still counseling the MSFF for all their conservation and education ProjectsThe commitments that he has involved himself in shows the wide magnitude of the true meaning of Man of the Year.

Let's not pass over a true friend and a tireless agent of our sport. One who is dedicated as Mac is worthy of receiving the SOC Man of the Year Award.
