2008 FFF Southern Council NominationTeacher of the YearRobert DoverMSFF nomination for Teacher of the Year is Richard Dover. Richard has given of his time and talents over the last three plus years, representing our club and SOC with a once monthly, fly tying workshop and class at the Bass Pro shop in Memphis. Currently he is also helping teach fly tying in the Project Healing Waters program co-sponsored by Delta TU and MSFF in Memphis. Richard has instructed a large number of students averaging from 5 to 20 on any given class night. The students have ranged in age from 8 to 68 and older, some are club members, others scouts, and many are new people to our sport drawn in by his enthusiasm. Richard has tied demonstrations at our club meetings, SOC conclave, Sowbug, Bass Pro, and the numerous boat shows and exhibitions we sponsor a presence in. Whenever anyone shows interest and even before they think they are interested Richard is showing them how much fun and easy it is to tie. Through his teaching he has helped bring numerous new members into MSFF and the FFF. Richard is a devout student himself learning new patterns and techniques which he passes on in his classes and demonstrations. Many times he will take a pattern, improve on it through use, then pass that pattern on to club members or others at tying events. Nominated by Tom Burkett |
