August 8, 2006 A Group Even Katrina and Rita Could Not DeterLake Charles, Louisiana - "I'm proud to announce the arrival of an 800-pound baby gorilla." "Its name is the Gulf Coast Council, Inc. of the Federation of Fly Fishers, Inc. Acting as a sub-council of the Southern Council for the time being, the GCC now has Articles of Incorporation, an interim set of bylaws, an interim Executive Board, and is well on it's way to having an operational budget, thanks to donations from the "Gulf Coast Council Founders' Club." says Glen "Catch" Cormier the interim president of the GCC. The Contraband Fly Casters, Tom Nixon Chapter, hosted the first organizational meeting of many clubs along and south of the I-10 corridor recently at which a board was installed, plans formulated and many ideas exchanged. Further, just "passing the hat" at this event, a sizable amount of seed money was raised by a core of council founders among those who attended. This is a most significant effort by them to get this council off the ground. They have already set a location for a 2007 GCC Conclave, to be held at the Lakefront Civic Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana. This geocentric location (5 hrs from San Antonio and 5 hrs from Mobile) offers great in-city fishing for reds, specks, and other brackish species, as well as great south Louisiana seafood, and of course, some terrific gaming resorts. There is inexpensive lodging just minutes from the facility, or even across the street within walking distance & Cormier reports. Check the GCC website for more details as they become available or call him at 225-938-2057 for specifics. "Catch" extends, to all clubs and fly fishers on the Gulf, a sincere invitation to join them in this newest effort to bring the Federation of Fly Fishers closer to our ardent salt water friends. "All of the FFF Southern Council welcomes the GCC and pledges our support of this endeavor. Best regards and well wishes." says Roger Maler, President, Southern Council of the Federation of Fly Fishers. ### |
