69. Adaptive Fly Tying Workshop
Instructor: Ken Morrow
If you teach fly tying through your club or fly shop it is just a matter of time until you encounter a student with a handicap who wants to learn to tie flies. Veterans hospitals, nursing homes, military hospitals, YMCA’s, and church recreation centers are all excellent facilities for FFF outreach programs and fly shop market expansion programs. And they are also places where you are likely to encounter people with disabilities. Often times, these disabilities aren’t casually obvious. Cognitive, psychological, developmental, and emotional impairments are rarely visible. And many physical disabilities aren’t readily apparent either. But sit down at a tying vise with someone with a disability and it won’t take long for the subject to come up…one way or another. So what do you do? In this interactive workshop Ken Morrow, professional adaptive fly tying instructor and Peak Pro Staff fly tier, will share with you some of the things that he has learned over his years both as a disabled tier himself, and as a teacher to literally scores of disabled and injured students.
Equipment: Pen or pencil, notepad. Participants are encouraged to bring their own vises and tying supplies, but it is not mandatory.
