2008 Conclave

The Conclave is the premier event of the the Southern Council Federation of Flyfishers, held each year in Mountain Home, Arkansas.  It was held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 2nd thru October 4th, 2008. The business meeting will be held Sunday morning the 5th.

YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS WHAT IS STACKING UP TO BE A GREAT TIME!

Workshops Cancelled

  • Workshop 7 — Thursday, 2:00 - 5:00 PM — Understanding Macroninvertebrates, Water Quality and Setting up a Stream Team (Field Version)"
  • Workshop 30 — Friday, 1:00 - 3:00 PM — "Understanding Macroinvertebrates, Water Quality and Setting up a Stream Team (Class Version)"
  • Workshop 48 — Saturday, 1:00 - 3:00 PM — "The Tying Bench, Live! with Mark Van Patten"

Regrettably, Mark Van Patten will not be able to attend nor conduct his workshops. Mark is a quality instructor and an expert when it comes to macroinvertebrates, water quality and Stream Teams. His work schedule required a sudden rearranging to cover something "official" at the same time as the 2008 Conclave. Mark would like nothing better than teach fly fishers some of what he works with daily. Hopefully, next year, he can work it out to return with these free workshops.

Wanna’ catch more fish?

Here’s your opportunity to shorten the learning curve! Nationally recognized expert, Art “Doc” Mazzier, great friend to the FFF and the Southern Council, has graciously agreed to amend his schedule in order to bring to you his in-depth class on the bugs that big fish will leave cover for. Art’s knowledge of entomology is nearly inexhaustible. He will lead you through a discovery and learning process that will elevate your understanding of the insects you have been encountering while fly fishing. But, Art is not just “a bug guy”. He also happens to be an FFF Master Casting Instructor, certified since 1997 and a recognized expert fly tier, not to mention his considerable fishing/catching abilities. Your attendance at this session will insure you a well rounded and in depth understanding and should be considered by all serious fishers, fly tiers and conservationists. This class should be “required reading” for at least one member in each club, simply to help facilitate the implementation of stream team initiatives and to elevate your club’s fly tying programs to a new level. This class is only offered once this year with a class size limit of 10, so don’t miss this unique opportunity. You can log on to the Southern Council website for the enrollment form at the link below. Oh yeah, almost forgot. Bring your tying gear. You’re not just learnin’ about bugs, you’re makin’ ‘em! Look forward to seeing you there!

Don't Miss It! 2008 Youth Conclave

Mark your calendars right now for the Wayne E & Catherine Moore Youth program for 2008 at the Southern Council Conclave – Saturday, October 4th in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the fabled waters of Dry Run Creek. It will be one of the best decisions you have made in a long time!

Youth Conclave at Dry Run Creek

Ozark Fly Fishers will be the hosting chapter for the youth program this coming fall. If you are a parent, a grandparent, a great grandparent, an uncle, an aunt, or in any size, shape or form connected to a child under the age of 16, you should seriously consider taking them to the Southern Council Conclave this coming fall. It is one of the most amazing places to fish for trout (rainbows, browns, brook, and cutthroats) on planet earth. There are reported to be more than 10,000 trout per mile. The requirements: 1) Flies only 2) Barbless Hooks only 3) Catch and Release only 4) Must be under 16 or handicapped. We will have all of the gear, stream-helpers (guides), lunch provided, and lots of other fun and giveaways for the kids. This is an absolutely amazing experience for the kids and you will have memories for you and them that will last a lifetime. If you would like to get involved in getting kids hooked for life, we are looking for helpers and any donations that might be available (primarily in the form of giveaways for the kids – flies, gear, and other things). Please contact Kevin Miquelon for more information at or 314-753-3644. I hope to see you there.
