The FFF Southern Council Fly Fishing Fair looks like a great one this year.

Over 60 of the best fly tyers holding demonstration for all to see and learn. Visit each one and come away with their tricks and secrets to make the perfect fly.

Welcome Dinner

Those boys from the backwoods of Tennessee, "The Bubba's" will be handling our Thursday Night Welcome Dinner! Food and entertainment at the same time. Social Bar opens at 5pm, dinner at 6pm. Cost: Free (Donations gladly accepted!)


The Live Auction

5:00 pm — Social Bar opens.
5:30 pm to 6:30 pm — FREE pizza will be served and FREE thirst quenching beverages will be provided….yes we mean beer! When it’s gone, it’s gone!
6:00 pm to 7:00 pm - Dave and Emily Whitlock will be talking about “Fly Fishing the Texas Hill Country”.
7:00 pm (or before) — Live Auction with Johnny Chamness and Dennis Slane officiating.


Banquet

6:30 pm — Serving Spaghetti and Meatballs starts.
7:00 pm — T.L. Lauerman, Sales Manager of Wapsi, will speak about the introduction of Bear Creek Bonneville Cutthroat Trout to the North Fork River. There are high hopes that this subspecies of trout could be successful at natural reproduction in the North Fork River.
7:30 pm — Annual Awards Presentation.

2012 Fly Fishing Fair Photo Contest

We are excited to announce this year's 2012 Southern Council FFF Fly Fishing Fair Photo Contest. Ribbons and prizes will be awarded to the winners in each category. Attendees of the Fly Fishing Fair will have an opportunity to vote on all photos submitted, so don't forget to vote for your favorite in the People's Choice Award.

ALL FISH MUST BE CAUGHT ON A FLY AND RELEASED UNHARMED.

The first six categories of this contest are open to amateurs only. Published professionals have a category of their own, see #7.

CATEGORIES:

  1. Fish of The Southern Council:
    Any freshwater fish caught on a fly in their native waters. Examples include: Rainbow, Brown, Brooke or Cutthroat Trout, Largemouth, Smallmouth, Striped, or White Bass, Bluegill, Gar, Carp, etc. Label the photo with the fish species and the water from which it was caught.
  2. Naturals and Their Imitations:
    Close up photography of insects, baitfish and their imitations, as in flies.
  3. Fly Anglers in Their Element:
    People of all ages enjoying fly fishing. That includes: casting, rowing, landing fish, etc. Mood shots and action shots are welcome.
  4. International Fly Fishing Experiences - Freshwater:
    The great waters outside the Southern Council: Trout, Atlantic salmon, grayling, peacock bass, etc.
  5. International Fly Fishing Experiences - Saltwater:
    Sailfish, tarpon, bonefish, etc in Belize, the Bahamas, Christmas Island, etc.
  6. Chairman's Award - Digital Photography entries:
    Open to all our regular categories 1-5. Include submission requirements and send as an attachment in JPEG format at 300 DPI if possible, no larger than 5MB, to Submit your photo(s) by September 1st, 2010. The photo committee will select the top three entries to be shown at the Conclave.
  7. Professional Images:
    Frequently published professionals may submit an entry of their choice.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS: (for categories 1-5 & 7)

Photo prints are required. Photos taken in 2011 and 2012 only, will be judged. No smaller than 8x10 and no larger than 11x14. No slides. Film and digital photos can be used but altered photos are not allowed. Photos must be mounted or matted but not framed. Each entry must be permanently labeled on the back with the following:

  1. Category
  2. Name of Photographer
  3. Address and phone number
  4. Title of photo and location where shot
  5. Date when photo was taken.

Contestants must include a self-addressed mailer with sufficient postage for the return of their photo(s). Those without mailers or sufficient postage will become the property of the SOCFFF. Contestants attending the show may drop off their entries in person; if you want your photo returned include sufficient postage, and if your photo is not a winning photo you may pick it up after the Fair. Utmost care is taken to return photos in perfect condition, but the SOCFFF is not responsible for damage or loss in shipment.

RIBBONS AND PRIZES:

All winning photos will be kept by the SOCFFF after the Conclave. Winners will be announced in the Fall/Winter issue of the Southern Council Communications newsletter. All 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places will receive ribbons. The SOCFFF will submit the first place winning photos to the Long Casts to be published. Second and third place winning photos will be listed by name and category only. First place winners will also receive prizes. Winning photos, if return is requested will be returned by the end of October 2011.

TO SUBMIT YOUR PHOTO:

Mail your photo to the SOCFFF office or deliver in person to staff at the Conclave. Hand delivered entries must be received at the registration desk by 10:00 am Friday, October 1. Mailed photos must be received by September 1, 2010.

Try your skills at the casting pools. Who knows…you might win a trophy in both distance and accuracy casting. We have intentionally not scheduled very many other programs at this time, so that everyone can participate in The Games!

You don't have to be a fly fishing nut to enjoy Conclave. Tell your non-fishing partner that there are activities for them too!

Dutch Oven Cooking – Dennis Slane
Come learn ever secret there is to cooking greattasting food in the middle of nowhere, or in your own backyard. Dennis is the Master Dutch Oven Chef. Hey, you get to eat what you cook too!

How to make your pictures and videos hold someone’s attention! with Ron Knight
Do you have a bunch of pictures that you want to show off? This class will help you do just that. This is an introductory class intended to help you start creating photo slide-shows that will keep your audience interested as well as awake. Whether you have fishing pictures, vacation pictures, Christmas pictures, pictures from the kids’ graduation, first recital, or pictures of your new car/motorcycle/boat/cabin-in-the-mountains, this class is for you. We will cover the basics of creating slideshows, what works well, what works sometimes, and what really doesn’t work at all. We will also cover what you need to know about file types and DVD burning. Once you see how it’s done, you’ll see how easy it is!

Outreach Luncheon and Auction
Come enjoy a great lunch then bid on some great items and provide for a great charity effort in Casting for a Cure. Everyone is welcome! Always a great auction and one of the most fun events of the weekend!

Plien Air Watercolor Workshop with Duane Hada
Duane Hada brings a unique, aesthetic appreciation to the sport of angling. Duane credits his life-long passion as artist and angler to being raised close to nature in the rural Ozarks’ Buffalo River country. Growing up surrounded by some of God’s greatest handiwork fuels the creative inspiration that has blended beautifully into a career as both angler and artist.

Class Description: Here is your opportunity to create your own Classic Trout masterpiece for your home or office, under the guidance of renowned Ozarks painter & guide Duane Hada. Ever catch a special trout (fish of your choice) and wanted to turn it into a memorable piece of fine art. This will be a fun filled “Can’t Fail” workshop that will definitely want to attend. You will create a beautiful original of a fish of your choice, in the time honored classical sporting art style. You will be so proud and impressed with your piece!

Wayne E and Catherine Moore Youth Conlcave

Open to children under the age of 16. If your child is under the age of 10, we require that you accompany him to this activity. Fly tying and casting instruction will be at the Fairgrounds in the morning. Lunch is provided at the fairgrounds. Each child must bring a hat, sun screen, and sunglasses.

Requirement: registration and permission slip signed by a parent or guardian prior to the outing. Permission slips available at the registration desk. Car-pooling is advised. For liability reasons, parents — please make arrangements for your child to get to and be returned from Dry Run Creek. We do not assume responsibility.

Time: 8:30 – 4:30. Tying and Casting Session at 9:00 AM
Lunch provided at Noon. 12:45 depart for Dry Run Creek 4:30 Youth Conclave concludes.

Gerald Wayne Martin (October 26, 1965) is a former American football defensive lineman who played eleven seasons in the National Football League for the New Orleans Saints from 1989 to 1999.

He attended the University of Arkansas and finished his career with 37 TFL and 25.5 Sacks. His TFL rank 3rd and his Sacks rank 1st in school history.[1]

Martin amassed a total of 82.5 quarterback sacks, which currently stands as the 2nd most career sacks with the Saints behind linebacker teammate Rickey Jackson, Martin Was Introduced Into the "New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame" with (Jim Dombrowski).

Martin wore uniform number 93.
