2006 CONCLAVE ISSUE PREZ LETTER

HI TO ALL,

FISHING HAS BEEN WONDEFUL ON THE WHITE AND NORFORK RIVERS!! Tracie and I have been planning our Florida move at the end of this year and this will be my last formal address to you. With great mixed emotions, I will pass this pleasure and honor onto the next SOC President in October. We will continue to visit our friends in Mt Home each fall and remain involved with the SOC forever.

FFF Doings

The ever expanding FFF website is bursting with new stuff. The Guide Association, the Members Only section, the Group Insurance Plan are all maturing, getting attention and results! Averaging 50,000 hits per day, you must sign in and peruse the information.

Dr. Ron Cordes will take the chairman’s helm in July from Gary Grant who has served with great success the last four years. Further, I am personally gratified to have assisted in securing Jack Nicklaus as the National Spokesperson for the Federation. He will add an air of distinction to our fine organization. Look for some neat fund raising events in the future with Jack.

Conclave 2006

Inflation price roll back - Your BOD has approved a significant reduction in registration fees for this year’s conclave due to the spiraling cost of gasoline. All levels, across the board, will be reduced by $10.00!

Always on the leading edge, the SOC Conclave will include the first ever electronic bidding for major items. Already committed are two fine boats. Returning is Mitzi Skiffs with their latest 17 foot flats boat ready to fish with a 50 hp 4 strokes Mercury. Spider Boats of Granite Hill, Mo. has committed one of their new 16 foot Flydeck Peenoes. The EBIDSOC will be the site to place your bids on these boats along with other great items. All will have a “Reserve” and a “Buy One Now” feature.

Our 2006 wrinkle to the EBay sort of auction is that you will be able to add your most desired wish to the auction. Just let us know what it is, commit in advance to its wholesale cost and we will put it on the E block. The Ebiding will continue up to 7pm on Saturday night. The details are not completed yet but this will allow you to be part of Conclave from your couch!

A third Jon Boat donated locally by Supreme Boat Manufacturing Company, EZ loader trailers and Mercury Motors will also be in a drawing as we offered the Mitzi Skiff last year. Look for the details and specs on all the items on our website. This will be an exciting event to put on your calendar NOW. See your club president for details.

The 2007 Board of Directors

This fall all of your Board positions will come up for voting. If you have the desire to serve your fellow members, please make your intentions know soon to Pat Smith or any board member. The slate will be presented to you and we hope all will be involved in this process.

I want to offer my deepest personal gratitude to Chet and Pat Smith without them, over many, many years; the SOC could not have prospered and served our membership to the levels you have growth to expect.

Membership Drive

The contest was a huge success for all that qualified. We gave back almost $2000 to our clubs and six Orvis fly rods to the highest growth numbers in the clubs. We hope to repeat this challenge next year.

SOC Presidents Outing

Our third annual event was a huge success with 28 in attendance. The rebate checks were handed out as well as the rods to the winning clubs. All had some great fishing that weekend and the best Bar-B-Q in the Ozarks. I want to commend Mid-South Fly Fishers for returning their rebate check (the largest) and rod to the SOC to be applied to our conservation efforts.

Warmest regards to all and thanks Pat for being my friend and saving my butt sooo many times,

Roger Maler
President
